A 24-year-old Bay Shore man has been indicted for murder in the fatal stabbing of a bicyclist outside a Long Island Rail Road station in July, more than a month after being tracked down and arrested by U.S. Marshals in Pennsylvania.

What Happened

Suffolk County prosecutors say Adrien Arocho got into a verbal exchange with 34-year-old Yolandus Darrell Pratt, who was riding his bicycle through the Bay Shore LIRR station parking lot around 2:30 a.m. on July 5. Arocho, along with a 17-year-old, allegedly confronted Pratt, and Arocho displayed a knife and stabbed him roughly 10 times in the chest and torso. Both attackers fled the scene. Officers found Pratt bleeding and unconscious at 2:33 a.m.; he died shortly after at South Shore University Hospital.

The Indictment

Arocho was indicted on a charge of second-degree murder, a Class A felony that carries a sentence of 25 years to life if he's convicted. He was arraigned Thursday and is being held without bail. His next court date is set for October 6.

A Weeks-Long Manhunt

Arocho evaded capture for nearly two months after the killing before U.S. Marshals apprehended him in Pennsylvania on September 3. The 17-year-old co-defendant has also been indicted on second-degree murder and is scheduled for arraignment September 21.

What Prosecutors Are Saying

Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney said in a statement: "No disagreement is ever worth brutal violence. We extend our condolences to Mr. Pratt's loved ones."
