A 12-year-old girl in Ibirité, Minas Gerais, Brazil, was caught in a massive swarm of bees after a beehive fell from a tree near the entrance of a school.
As the bees surrounded the girl, motorcycle courier Vinícius Martins de Paulo stopped to help.
Martins entered the swarm and managed to pull the girl toward safety. During the rescue, he was stung about 40 times.
The girl suffered more than 100 bee stings and was taken to hospital for treatment. Reports said the stings were concentrated around her head, face and neck.
The rescue was captured on video by a camera mounted on Martins' helmet, and the footage later spread widely online.
Other people in the area were also stung during the incident.
By September 19, reports said the girl had improved and was close to leaving the hospital.
The dramatic footage has drawn widespread attention online, particularly because Martins continued trying to reach the girl despite being attacked by the swarm himself.
