Oregon came into Stillwater as a 24.5-point favorite. A year earlier, the Ducks had beaten Oklahoma State 69-3. By the time Saturday's rematch ended, Oklahoma State had done something no unranked opponent had managed against a team favored by that many points since the FBS/FCS split in 1978: they won.
Final score: Oklahoma State 39, Oregon 31. It ended a 21-game losing streak for the Cowboys against FBS opponents and snapped Oregon's 57-game win streak when favored by 24 or more points.
How It Happened
Quarterback Drew Mestemaker threw for 317 yards and two touchdowns and added 109 rushing yards and a third score on the ground. Running back Caleb Hawkins added 110 rushing yards, and receiver Wyatt Young caught for 121. Oklahoma State finished with 554 total yards to Oregon's 281 — nearly double — while holding the Ducks to just one trip into the red zone all game.
Oregon's offense never found rhythm. Quarterback Dante Moore completed just 14 of 29 passes, and the Ducks converted only 5 of 17 third- and fourth-down attempts. Two interceptions handed Oklahoma State 14 points directly, and a late fumble recovery with under two minutes left sealed the outcome.
"We Got Our Ass Kicked"
Oregon head coach Dan Lanning didn't dress it up afterward. "The score was closer than it really was, because it wasn't close in a lot of ways," he said. "We got our ass kicked in a lot of areas." He credited Oklahoma State's preparation directly: "They gave us a lot of looks that were a little bit different, especially defensively, than what we had prepared for."
What It Means
For Oklahoma State, it's an emphatic answer to last year's 66-point blowout loss and the program's longest active skid against FBS competition. For Oregon, a preseason College Football Playoff contender, it's an early and public dent in those hopes — the kind of loss that doesn't just cost a game, but reshapes how the rest of the season gets read.
