An Instagram account with no name attached to it, and at its peak roughly four lakh (about 400,000) followers, spent nearly three weeks building anticipation for what it billed as a major reveal on August 25, 2026. When the date arrived, followers who paid to see the promised unveiling instead found a generic AI-generated motivational video — and the account has since been accused across Indian social media of running a pure curiosity-monetization scheme, according to multiple outlets including Free Press Journal, LatestLY and Tupaki.
Three weeks of hype, no explanation
The account, publicly known only by a handle referencing the date '25th August 2026,' began posting teaser videos in early August, repeatedly hinting that something big was coming without ever specifying what. The vagueness appeared deliberate: as the follower count climbed toward roughly four lakh, speculation about the nature of the reveal, ranging from a celebrity announcement to a product launch, spread across Instagram and X.

A Telegram link, and a ₹500 paywall
On August 25, the account's Instagram Story reportedly directed followers to a Telegram channel rather than posting the reveal directly. To view the promised content there, users were asked to pay approximately ₹500 (roughly $6), reportedly through Telegram's in-app Stars payment feature. Some Indian outlets have reported that as many as 1.66 lakh (166,000) people paid, which by that math would put the total collected at roughly ₹8 crore (about $960,000); other reports put the figure closer to 1 lakh payers and roughly ₹5 crore. IF Daily has not independently verified the number of people who paid or the total amount collected, and the identity of the account's operator has not been established.
What people actually got
According to multiple reports, the video behind the paywall was not a celebrity reveal or exclusive announcement at all: it was a generic, AI-generated motivational clip offering advice like waking up early and valuing your time. The anticlimax triggered widespread mockery online, with many commenters describing the entire campaign as a calculated test of how much people would pay for pure curiosity. Some social media users have called for a formal fraud investigation, though as of publication no Indian law enforcement agency has confirmed opening one, and IF Daily could not independently confirm any regulatory response is underway.

The episode has become a case study in how far curiosity alone can be monetized on Instagram before any real content is ever delivered — and a reminder, commentators note, that a countdown with no explanation can be the entire product.
