Kyle Bickham was riding the CTA Red Line home on September 7, 2026, coming off a shift at an Amazon warehouse in Cicero. He didn't know the three people who approached him on the train. There was no argument between them beforehand, no history — just, according to Chicago police, a group that decided to push him off a moving train near the 69th Street station.
He fell onto the electrified third rail. Then another train struck him. He was 29.
One Arrest So Far
On September 11, police arrested a 15-year-old girl, identifying her as one of the three people who "used force" to push Bickham from the train. She's been charged with first-degree murder, mob action, murder by other forcible felony, and aggravated battery to a transit employee — all felonies. A judge ordered her held in custody. Because she's a minor, police have not released her name. The other two suspects involved in the attack have not been identified or arrested.
"They Took the World From Me"
Bickham's family says he had no connection whatsoever to his attackers — he was simply on his way home. His father, Christopher Bickham Sr., put it plainly: "They took happiness. They took sunshine. They just took the world from me." His mother, Latanya Bickham, described a son who was "just trying to make an honest day's living." His grandmother, Bertha Ford, asked the question at the center of the case: "If you're that evil, to open a door and throw somebody out, what's wrong with you?"
Asking the Public for Help
With two suspects still unidentified, Bickham's family has been direct in asking the public for information, urging anyone who witnessed the attack or knows who was involved to come forward. They've also started a GoFundMe, titled "Kyle Bickhams Light Lives On In Our Hearts," to cover funeral expenses — the kind of cost a family shouldn't have to think about for a son who was simply riding the train home from work.
What's Next
The 15-year-old remains in custody as the case moves through juvenile proceedings. Police have not said how close they are to identifying the other two people involved, and Bickham's family is still waiting — for the other arrests, and for some kind of answer to why a total stranger was targeted for nothing at all.
