President Donald Trump announced Friday that Katie Zacharia will become the next White House press secretary, taking over the podium from Karoline Leavitt, who is leaving the role to join Fox News as a contributor, according to CBS News and Time.

Who is Katie Zacharia?

Zacharia is a conservative commentator who has appeared frequently on Fox News, CNN and Newsmax, per Time and Al Jazeera. Earlier this year she served as a spokesperson and deputy assistant secretary for public affairs at the Department of Homeland Security, before moving to a senior communications-adviser role at Trump Media & Technology Group, the parent company of Truth Social, according to CBS News and Al Jazeera. A California native, Zacharia is a Pepperdine University alumna who interned at the White House as a law student during the George W. Bush administration, Pepperdine's newsroom said.

Trump praised Zacharia's "unblemished record of support" in announcing the pick and said, "I am confident that Katie will deliver strong results for our Country as the next White House Press Secretary," according to CBS News. Zacharia responded in a post on X and Truth Social: "Serving President Trump and the American people at this critical 250-year mark is the honor of a lifetime."

What happens to Leavitt

Leavitt, who left the press secretary role in August, is joining Fox News as a contributor, CBS News reported. No date has been reported for when Zacharia takes over the podium.
