The fifth annual Corgi Race Vilnius drew its biggest crowd yet on Saturday, with 150 corgis from nine countries gathering in the Lithuanian capital's Vingis Park for a day of sprints, costumes and barking contests.

From 40 dogs to 150

"In the first year, we gathered 40 corgis from one city. This year, it's 150 from nine" countries, said organizer Edvinas Miskas. Competitors traveled from Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Estonia, Germany, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, the United States and Britain, with roughly half of this year's registered corgis taking part for the first time.

A repeat champion

Ninety-four dogs competed in the main event, working through qualifiers and semifinals before the 25-meter final. American entrant GG, short for Gustave the Girl Dog, won it, beating out Mr. Corgington for her second consecutive international title after also winning at Emerald Downs in Auburn, Washington.

More than just a race

Thirty-eight corgis took part in a costume parade ranging from dinosaur suits to sports gear, with a knight-themed entrant named Amigo sweeping both the judges' panel and the public Facebook vote. Latvian corgis Tora and Rusty tied in the "smartest nose" contest for finding hidden treats, while Mr. Corgington, runner-up in the main race, took home the loudest-bark title.
