Apple TV has renewed "Slow Horses" for an eighth season — one day before the sixth season even premieres. The spy drama, led by Gary Oldman, just picked up an Emmy for Outstanding Directing in a Drama Series, and the network isn't waiting to lock in more of it.
What Season 8 Will Cover
The renewal is for a six-episode season adapted from "Clown Town," the ninth novel in Mick Herron's "Slough House" book series. According to Apple, the season will pit Jackson Lamb (Oldman) against Diana Taverner (Kristin Scott Thomas) in "their most explosive confrontation yet," after a failed attempt to blackmail MI5's headquarters — known in the show as "the Park" — pushes Taverner onto the offensive while Lamb digs into one of the agency's darkest secrets.
An Unusually Early Renewal
Renewing a show a full season ahead of its next premiere is rare, even for a hit. The timing follows directly on the heels of the show's Emmy win — Saul Metzstein took the directing award for the Season 5 finale, "Scars" — and signals how much confidence Apple has in the franchise heading into Season 6.
Behind the Camera
Ben Vanstone is set to adapt Season 8 for television and executive produce, with Adam Randall returning to direct. Season 6 premieres now, with Season 7 and Season 8 already in the pipeline behind it.
