Lisa sat down with Jimmy Fallon on "The Tonight Show" Thursday to talk about "Press Play," her upcoming solo EP, and the six-track project turned out to be as much about where she's from as where she's headed. "This EP is about my journey from my roots to where I am right now today," the Blackpink member said.
Tracing Her Thai Roots
Lisa, who was born and raised in Thailand before training and debuting in South Korea, said the EP leans directly into that background. "There's a lot of Thai element[s] in the song, as well [as] in the EP," she told Fallon. "SaWaDiKa" — a title built on the Thai greeting "sawasdee ka" — released earlier this month as the project's first single.
"It's Like a Movie"
Asked to describe the EP as a whole, Lisa said each song stands on its own before adding up to something bigger. "Every single song, they have their own character, their own vibe," she said. "When we combine it together, it's like a movie. So you just press play." She also teased that track four — with a title starting with the letter T — will be the next single released ahead of the EP.
Out October 23
"Press Play" is set for release on October 23. The appearance marks one of Lisa's highest-profile U.S. solo promotional stops yet, as she builds out a career independent of Blackpink's group releases and tours.
